Marina specialises in Media, FinTech and Data Privacy related matters.

She is an associate in the TMT team and acts for local and international entities whose work primarily relates to the broad spectrum of the tech and media spheres.

Routinely advising clients on the regulation of virtual assets in the UAE, Marina also uses her business approach to provide additional advisory services to institutional clients looking to set up and structure their activities in the region.

Marina has experience in conducting data privacy assessments for companies with the aim of implementing a data protection framework or localising an international company’s existing framework in compliance with applicable data protection laws.

She counsels local and international media, e-commerce and regulated financial platforms on consumer protection, advertising guidelines and data protection legislation.

Prior to joining BSA, Marina had both private practice and in-house experience having worked at a regional law firm in Beirut, as well as an international investment bank in Paris.

Highlights of experience
  • Advised on legal regulatory issues in the GCC region concerning driverless vehicles, in particular, telematics for connected cars for an international ride hailing platform
  • Counseled on the collection, processing, and transfer of data outside the UAE as well as data privacy and data collection disputes as per the PDPL and GDPR
  • Acted for a global E- Commerce business on consumer protection and data privacy advice and localised their terms and conditions
  • Advised on the set-up of an e-gaming application in the GCC
  • Counselled on media guidelines in the UAE as well as liaised with the Media Regulatory Office in respect of content regulation i.e., the display of prohibited content, age restrictions and pre-moderation on streaming platforms
  • Advised an international company on the legality of using VPN and VoIP related software sourced other than from a locally licensed telecommunications services provider
